A heartfelt thankyou

The Board of the RufUs Charitable Trust throws out a huge THANK YOU to the whole of Adelaide for the many donations of time, money, furniture, linen, kitchenware, clothing, personal hygiene items and gifts throughout 2016 which we used to reach out with heart to the homeless. Every bit helped!

Thank you to everyone who contributed support and funds to us throughout the year.

Thank you to our corporate sponsors for really being there backing us up.

Thank you to all the volunteers for your time and efforts.

Thank you to the many services that enable the homeless to move into housing and accommodation and request our help in making these houses a home.

All of this support has seen many homeless families and individuals, women, men, youth and children move from the streets into housing. These people have a variety of background situations which brought them to the streets originally. Now they begin to start a place called home.

Our December ‘Home For Christmas’ project was a huge success, with 36 homes outfitted in 24 days in December up until Christmas Eve. Thanks to all who donated furniture and household items, and of course to our dedicated collections and delivery team, who worked very long ours to see those homes established.

RufUs continues to grow thanks to your kindness and generosity. We look forward to 2017 and your continued support because together we’ll keep making a real difference.

Happy New Year to all.

Looking forward to a massive 2017!

Welcome to the RufUs Charitable Trust, a charity run entirely by volunteers to assist the homeless and to prevent homelessness in Adelaide. We are looking forward to a New Year in 2017 which brings opportunities to expand our work with people experiencing homelessness and family violence, particularly in outfitting houses ‘from scratch’ so that people can get off the streets and into a place called home. This is a core aspect of our work and one which is unique in Adelaide.

  • We are finding that our workload is roughly doubling each year. For example, in 2015 RufUs outfitted 220 houses with beds, mattresses, bedside tables, wardrobes, chests of drawers, tables and chairs, lounges, coffee tables, and other requested items such as desks. Additional items supplied were: bedlinen, pillows, doonas, tea-towels, crockery, cutlery, coffee mugs, glasses, kitchen utensils, kettles, toasters, towels etc, white goods when available.
  • This meant 239 adults and 189 children were supported into a home. The retail value of these goods was $4,500,000.
  • RufUs has supplied over 1000 home-cooked meals, via a Street Service each Saturday morning, with the additional supply of water, additional food items, socks, shoes, blankets, sleeping bags, mosquito repellent, hair shampoo, toothpaste, toilet paper, clothing, etc. We also provide toys, Christmas presents and provided over 100 women’s toiletry handbags in partnership with Share the Dignity.
  • In 2016 RufUs continued to support those on the streets of Adelaide and outfitted over 500 homes by the end of the year, with an average of 3 people per home. The number of homes we outfit is roughly doubling each year. For 2017 our goal is 1000 homes!
  • RufUs has continued to inform the community about the issues around homelessness, those of risk of homelessness, and the prevention of homelessness, having attended a number of speaking engagements and radio interviews in 2016. Please contact us if you’d like us to speak to your organisation.
  • RufUs is run completely by volunteers and we are always on the lookout for more – let us know you are interested via our Facebook page.

RufUs Speaks at Rotary Club Edwardstown

Earlier this month RufUs was invited to speak at the Rotary Club Edwardstown. We received great support from the speech with offers of further support of RufUs. Thanks very much to the Rotary Club of Edwardstown for this opportunity and to all who have offered continuing support of RufUs, we greatly appreciate it.
